Loan Policy

Museums in Texas and around the nation frequently receive loans from the Audie Murphy/American Cotton Museum’s collections.  Most notably, loans have been made for the Atlanta History Center’s 1996 American Heritage Exhibit for the 1996 Olympics, and for the inaugurations of various state and federal officials.

The Audie Murphy/American Cotton Museum frequently makes loans from its Cotton Collection, its Reeves Coca-Cola Collection, its photography archive, and its Henson Lingerie Collection, the largest collection of vintage and prototype undergarments held in the public trust by any institution in the Southwest.

The Audie Murphy/American Cotton Museum considers the following when negotiating a loan for fellow institutions:

1. Insurance. W ill the borrowing institution insure the item?

2. History of borrowing institution.  The Audie Murphy/American Cotton Museum prefers to make loans to institutions that have existed for at least five years, have professional staff, have negotiated previous loans (with any institution) previously, and are members of organizations such as Texas Association of Museums or American Association of Museums.

3. Length of Loan.  The Audie Murphy/American Cotton Museum prefers to issue term loans for no less than ninety days and no longer than one year.

4. Security.  Any borrowing institution must provide the museum with proof that it has a security system, locking display cases (depending upon the artifact), and appropriate internal procedures.

If your institution meets these requirements, please contact the museum’s Executive Director for more information.
